Thing #4 More Flickr

"Spell with Flickr" site http://metaatem.net/words/ is very hard to read, not user friendly and I could not find how to spell words using Flickr images.

Using "Captioner" was easy and fun. To the left is an image I created.

Lots of interesting options with "Big Huge Labs." I created a puzzle using a photo of my grandfather, which is located on the lower right of this post.

Thing #3. Flickr

Flickr is very easy to use. Creating an account takes minimal mouse clicks and uploading photos is easier than most other sites (especially if you have a Yahoo! account). I like being able to add notes or content for each photo posted.

#2 Learn about Learning 2.0

We are supposed to blog about how Library 2.0 or Web 2.0 applies to our institution / library. A concern for me is that our employer monitors user band width and periodically sends out reminders that "big brother is watching." L2 is the wave of the future and is evolving before our eyes just as the Internet emerged and changed the world in the 90s. If libraries are to remain a vital cog in the information wheel of knowledge for communities employers will need to embrace L2 and Web 2.0 technologies.

I find it interesting that web developers treat users as co-developers of sites. For instance if users do not adopt new features on web sites the features are removed and new ones added. ie: users become co-developers of web sites.

Google Docs and/or "Writely" are great examples of Web 2.0 applications.

Thing 1 - take 2

I have discovered that accidently hitting the enter key posts your blog whether you have written a message in the body of the blog post or not. Creating the blog was not difficult; similar in fact to signing up on Facebook and Shutterfly both of which I am members. The profile creation was a little more difficult, but not too stressful. Uploading images adds a little personality to the blog. Not a bad experience overall.

Thing 1

I am gearing up the the Society of Southwest Archivists Annual Meeting in Shreveport, Louisiana May 20-23, 2009. As the incoming chair of the scholarship committee my days will be filled with committee duties, seminars and networking.

Mother's Day

Working on Mother's Day is such a joy, especially when a complete stranger buys your breakfast.

On to work and archiving duties. Transferred existing finding aids to "newer" binders due to splitting spines on old binders; worked on processing Fort Worth Library Women's Archive collection; staffed reference desk and assisted patrons when the Library opened to the public; and staffed plaza / information desk for an hour.
